Course Description:

Through careful study of texts, screenplays, and films, students in this course will evaluate how stories are developed in the digital realm and become active participants in the larger digital media creative sphere. Over the course of the semester, students will hone their analytic and creative chops through various exercises, written assignments, and small video and audio projects. In addition, each student will produce a capstone 6-12 minute video short film built from a story outline, script, shot list, and several drafts and previews over the semester.

Course Objectives:

Students will engage in storytelling through digital media using software platforms such as Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and the Apple suite (including GarageBand and iMovie). The classroom will serve as a microcosm of the larger digital film realm, where students will gain firsthand experience as active participants in the video file-sharing community. In addition to creating their own content, students will comment on and critique the work of their peers.
