Welcome to Writers House!

Jessica Kaiser Poem

Observations Whilst on a Tour of Charleston Farm

The house is full of fingerprints,
Swirling and florid,
Bright and patterned,
Pressed upon windows, doors, and walls
As if they, the inhabitants,
Heaved giant, paint-filled breaths,
And ran their fingers through it,
With an even eye.

And though their faces and eyes
Are embedded in frames,
They are also coated on mantelpieces,
Headboards and cabinets
As pearly blue, pink, green irises
Gazing tenderly at each other,
Opaque and warm
And unblinking.
