zoom cafe wide 02 01 1This workshop will perform brief text and image pairings on Instagram. Participants will be given five ways of taking an image and five ways of generating text. Next, we will pair everything together into an entirely new text and image.

Our guest teacher is multimedia artist and writer Simone Kearney. Simone is a New York based writer, artist, and educator. Her teaching focuses on fostering dialogue across mediums, and on exploring relationships between form and content, concept and material. Aside from her teaching, her own work often involves collaboration, and the translation of content across media. Two recent collaborative and interdisciplinary projects include “Desire Lines,” a performative translation of the philosopher Sara Ahmed’s work into movement and material, with the artist and scholar Sophie Seita, performed at Boston University in the spring of 2020; and “One Sings The Other Doesn’t,” a combination of text, drawing, still photography and video, in collaboration with the artist and writer Xiaofu Effy Wang, published in Precog Magazine this year. She is author of a full-length book of poems, “Days,” (Belladonna Press, forthcoming in 2021), and the chapbooks “My Ida” (Ugly Duckling Press, 2017), and “In Threes” (MINUTE books press, 2013).

Some other recent or forthcoming publications include: The Brooklyn Rail, Lit Hub, St. Ann’s Review, Jubilat, Lumina, and Ohio Edit, among others. She has exhibited her artwork nationally and internationally, and most recently, her work was on view at Klaus Von Nichtssagend Gallery, and Olympia gallery in the Lower East Side.
