Rose Flahive Poem

Untitled

With broom handled brushes,
and children's poster paint,
we created a home.
With lampshades of blouses and colanders,
and quirky needlework that we designed,
we made it our home.
Each and every one of us claimed a part of it,
even those of us who didn't actually live here.
It was ours,
ours in a way that no-one else can claim.
We took what wasn't ours and we changed it,
painted it,
reconstructed it
until it suited us, was quirky
and charming in the way we felt that we were.
Liberated from the old norms,
and creating our beautiful aesthetic
to claim for our own home.
Yes... yes,
we made every inch of it
truly ours.
