Rutgers Writers House

"Atlantic Crossing" is a one-hour documentary produced by Writers House instructor Dena Seidel and a crew comprised of former and current Writers House students. This film follows RU27, an underwater robot, as she crosses the rough North Atlantic ocean. The glider has completed her mission to Spain and the crew will arrive to film her recovery in early December.

In the summer of 2009, Writers House student Scott Lazes travelled to Copenhagen to film the World Outgames. Now, he and 3 other students in our Digital Storytelling class are making films about athletes, sports and sexual identity. Inspired by Mark Schuster's class on Sports and Sexuality, these students have come to Writers House to make documentaries and video essays dealing with this powerful subject.

"The Doc on Doc", about the Documentary Filmmaking for Writers class, was made collaboratively by seven Writers House students (Amanda Bullis, Lizette Gesuden, Alex Prister, Jacob Rasor, Dave Rothstadt, Pilar Timpane and Francisco Veloz) . Designed and taught by Dena Seidel, a professional filmmaker with a background in broadcast television, this course focuses on short film story composition, the 3 Act structure, and film language. Students also learn the basic skills necessary to use Writers House video cameras and Final Cut software.
